JAPAN’S BEST HOT SPRING TOWN: KINOSAKI ONSEN

Kenowski Onson’s 1300th Birthday

K.Inowski, Japan – 2020 is the 1300th anniversary of Kenovsky Onsen, a historic Onsen (hot spring) town with seven hot spring baths spaced apart.

Kenovsky Onson’s history began with Dochi Sonan, a Buddhist monk who traveled the country to help the afflicted and sick. As a result of his journey, he reached Knowski-Onsen, where he was instructed by the local oracle to pray for a thousand days to save people from suffering. On the eleventh day, the hot spring came. This hot spring water soon became known throughout the region and the country for its incredible healing powers. Eventually, the word reached the then emperor. After confirming the authenticity of Kinovsky’s Onsen, he called the temple built by Duchess Shannon for the protection of Knovsky, its hot springs, and its people, “the patron temple of Knovsky Onsen.”

There is very little consensus in Japan that is as old as Kanowski’s and their actual history is recorded. Kenovsky is noted in a number of historical documents that can date his founding to 720 BC. The discovery of a hot spring source, which today is the site of Bathroom, Mandara U, is documented in these documents.
